What the Mona Lisa taught me about the opportunities we’re failing to see

Listen to KEA Canada founder, Kathy Arney, speak on the podcast, ‘So you want to move to the country and raise goats.’ This podcast is about change and life transitions. Guests share their stories of change – how they changed direction, dealt with anxiety and failure, and then finally, achieved success.

The Pull of the Familiar

There is something deeply human about moving toward what’s familiar – what’s famous, what everyone else is already looking at. In the nonprofit sector, we constantly flock toward the familiar. We chase the same funders because that’s where the money has always come from. We run the same programs because they’re the ones people recognize and attended last year. We measure success the same way we always have because that’s what we think is expected.

Kathy Arney originally received her training as a Certified Professional Accountant. Her career took several directions which helped her discover her passion for nurturing generosity and philanthropy, and for helping people and organizations reach their full potential.

Kathy moved across Canada, from east to west and back, a couple of times for work, lost her job and promotion opportunities, and embraced change events that opened new doors that led her to her passion. Today, Kathy Arney is the Founder and President of KEA Canada, established in Banff, Alberta in 2013. KEA provides supports to charities and non-profit organizations in areas that include capacity-building, resource development, coaching, interim leadership and campaign planning and management.
